about

Chasing Dragons, Vol. 1 is a collection of music designed to be used during tabletop gaming sessions. Composed to be atmospheric, loopable, and tone-setting background music, the songs are a non-intrusive accompaniment to your tabletop adventures that'll help players and GMs better feel the world you're creating together at the table.

I set out to make a short soundtrack for an imagined and fantastical world that didn’t rely on the usual sounds and instrumentation of fantasy soundtracks—think somewhere between warm, instrumental folk and Dungeon Synth. And since I tend to be a perfectionist, I also imposed a limit on myself: to compose each song in a single day.

Originally crafted as a collection of songs for a Dungeons and Dragons campaign I play in, I hope this can be a backdrop to your adventures too! This album is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 License. It costs nothing to use for your tabletop session, indie game, podcast, film, or other media (please reach out and let me know if you do—I’d love to hear about it). Any money you pay for this will go toward creating the next batch of free music!

"The city is comfortably quiet tonight. Wandering through the empty, winding streets, you hear a familiar melancholic tune off in the distance. You swear you’ve heard it before but you can’t quite place where. You trace it to an old wizard playing a lyre as he sits on a bench overlooking the city’s deepwater harbor. He invites you to sit next to him as he continues to play and his song gently drifts off into the night ...”
