about

Chasing Dragons, Vol. II is a collection of music originally written to be used in tabletop gaming sessions. Composed to be atmospheric, loopable, and tone-setting background music, the songs are an accompaniment to your tabletop games that'll help players and GMs better feel the world you're creating together at the table.

This set of songs was written during the course of the COVID-19 pandemic, when (virtual) D&D was one of the few anchors in my life during the pandemic, and it was fundamental in keeping my creative energy alive. In a weird way, writing it was almost a tool for survival. It became something to look forward to, a goal to work towards, and a catalyst for growing my musical abilities. Like Chasing Dragons, Vol. I, I wanted to expand on the soundtrack for an imagined world that didn’t rely on the usual sounds and instrumentation of fantasy soundtracks—this album exists somewhere between warm, instrumental folktronica and your favorite retro video game soundtracks, though it takes detours into post-rock, breakbeat, glitch, and more.

I hope these songs bring you joy and can be a backdrop to your adventures! This album is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 License. It costs nothing to use for your tabletop session, indie game, podcast, film, or other media (but please reach out and let me know if you do use any of these tunes—I’d love to hear about it!)

Who holds the silver string? Entwined between
the dragon, balanced on the knife edge of the dream

The reaper, who defied the call of darkness
and druid who became invincible regardless

The mage who can't remember, anymore
and gardener who brought flowers to the war

The singer of the song that opens heavens
and warlock who walks backwards into demons,

The string pulls tighter, down into the heart
of waterdeep, the city being pulled apart,

Where wanderers estranged may yet find refuge
in each other, and if they choose

to carry one another through the vault below,
feeling for the string among the surrounding shadow,

Though you may be tossed and scattered,
stabbed and battered, lost within,
there will be a light on in the tavern,
guiding your way home again.
